Planning your visit
Reaching the Hollywood Sign takes a bit of forethought. The landmark sits atop steep hills in Griffith Park, removed from bus lines and parking lots. Crowds swell on weekends and summer afternoons, while weekday mornings often promise peace and clear skies. There’s no admission fee to see the sign, but getting closest means hiking at least a couple of miles. Those wanting less of a climb can find distant—but still rewarding—views from well-chosen viewpoints around Los Angeles. Accessibility remains a challenge for those with mobility issues, although some vantage points and shuttles do offer easier options.
- Best time to visit: Weekday mornings or late afternoons in spring or fall for mild weather and lighter crowds.
- How to get there: Hike from Griffith Observatory, Brush Canyon Trailhead, or Mt. Hollywood Drive. Rideshare drop-offs are permitted at certain trailheads. DASH Observatory public buses run to Griffith Park daily.
- Accessibility: Wheelchair-accessible viewpoints at Griffith Observatory and Lake Hollywood Park. Hiking trails may be steep and unpaved in places.
- Average visit duration: 2–4 hours, depending on chosen route and activity level.
